I have been employed in the Sterile Processing Department at the QEII Health Sciences Department at the HI Site since 1997. I was the Resource person for SPD for seven years and in that capacity worked very closely with the Nursing Units and Clinics. Being a Resource for SPD led to a responsibility in training all new staff that started as Technicians in the department and from January 2008 to March 2009 I was the dedicated day shift Charge person – and as such dealt with the day to day operations of our Unit. I am currently the Vice President of our SPD Education Committee where we raise funds to help staff complete SPD education related courses and I’ve been the Secretary for the CSANS since November 2008. March 2009 I started my new role as SPD Staff Developer for the CDHA and some of my responsibilities are to arrange Educational in-services, develop Policies and Procedures, staff competencies, and orientation with new staff in SPD. I also collaborate with infection prevention control to complete yearly Audits throughout District.
I live in Halifax with my husband of 30 years. I have 2 grown sons and 3 adorable grandsons that keep me busy. I enjoyed my role as secretary of the CSANS and the experience that I have gained. I am looking forward to working with the executive in my new role as President of MDRNS.
